The Iowa School Performance Profile website is a direct response to Iowa’s compliance of the newly authorized federal Every Student Succeeds Act. The reports available within this site show how school districts, school buildings and the State are performing on important indicators. The site is intended to inform educators, parents and education stakeholders and to enhance local conversations about strengths and challenges as we work collaboratively to improve outcomes.
There are three categories that schools could be placed in based on student performances in various outcomes. The MET is the best level and simply means that the local school District and building have met all the defined criteria of ESSA. TARGETED is the second level and makes the District aware that a particular building has not met portions of the designated criteria. COMPREHENSIVE is the least desirable rating and demonstrates a more significant need for school buildings to ramp up efforts in the various areas of the report.
At Woodward-Granger all buildings but the ELC and Elementary have met targets. The ELC and Elementary fell short on growth targets for students who live in poverty and students with Individualized Education Plans. This simply means that the growth in these subpopulations did not meet the states standard measurement of growth. Because of this Woodward-Granger will create a comprehensive plan that addresses the growth needs of each of these subpopulations. This plan will be completed by May of 2019 and implementation will resume immediately on a three year cohort cycle. The District will annually resample this data and redefine its status according to ESSA standards accordingly.

The State Requirements of Making Up School
When do we have to make up school hours and when do we not?
I frequently get asked the question about how and when do we as a school district need to make-up hours that are missed in a given school year and when do we not? Since our school has designated that we are on an hourly calendar, the answer is relatively simple in terms of what the law requires. This requirement states that accredited public schools must attend a minimum of 1,080 hours of instruction in a school year. So calendars that have more hours built into them have essentially built in the flexibility of additional hours to absorb in the event that hours are missed.
Since we have had a mild winter and have missed zero days so far (knock on wood) due to inclement weather we are sitting is great shape. Currently we have 12.75 hours built into the District calendar. Once these hours have been exhausted then we will be making up the additional time at the end of the current calendar year to meet the 1080-hour requirement.
