District Thankful for Facility Updates... Continues to Look to the Future
Since the passing of the community voted $9.85M General Obligation bonds in April of 2013 the district has been diligent in fulfilling its promises to the W-G taxpayers. Below is a summary of these achievements within the last 4 years.
In the fall of 2015 the new 10-million dollar Woodward- Granger (2nd-5th grade) Elementary opened its doors for the first time. The addition of this 68,000 square feet of space has not only allowed for the K-5 student population to spread their wings, while providing for future student growth, but has also afforded the district the opportunity to provide additional preschool classes and a Before and After School program to better serve our growing communities.
Simultaneous to the building of the new Woodward- Granger Elementary the district also completed the following projects: Paved the High School parking lot, Added a new roof and insulation to the Middle School and Early Learning Centers and worked with the City of Woodward to bring the Hawk Stadium parking surface up to City standards and code compliance. These issues were all necessities in an effort to protect our facility investments and to maintain the proper compliances.
Finally, one major project occurred during the summer of 2016 and included the addition of new air conditioning/rooftop units at both the Early Learning Center (ELC) and the Middle School. These projects are currently being finalized and have provided a much-needed upgrade, in equipment, to better control the learning environment for our students.
With the completion of these projects the district has not only exhausted the $9.85 million in GO funds but has also borrowed against the Local Option Sales Tax dollars to complete all the projects mentioned. As we look to the future we continue to identify facility needs and have plans in place to gradually address these needs as funding becomes available to the district. Again, we thank you, the local taxpayer for supporting these endeavors and hope that you feel that your tax dollars have gone to overall betterment of the district.
If you have additional questions about this article or would like to discuss additional plans of the district I would encourage you to attend a SIAC or Board meeting and/or contact me at your convenience at bradanderson@wghawks.school, (515) 999-8022.
