Community Member Plays HUGE Role in Construction Process

When talking about building and new construction projects in a school district, the prospect can be very exciting yet highly anxious. The construction of the New 68,000 square foot Elementary building in 2014- 15 was all of these things.

As a younger Superintendent with just enough construction and building background knowledge to be dangerous, I knew that it was in the district’s best interest to find someone at the local level to help with oversight of the project while being the everyday eyes and ears on the ground during the project. This is where Mr. Mike Wessels came into the picture. Mr. Wessels, a longtime Granger community member came to the table with a number of experiences in the mechanical contracting field and was willing to work with the District in terms of time and compensation to be given towards the project. To make a long story short, it was a terrific match.

For approximately 18 months Mr. Wessels spent countless hours on the building site and in meetings related to the project. During this time he asked questions, challenged building techniques as related to plans and made sure we were getting a quality built project. He reported issues to me and would even troubleshoot with the various contractors directly. Throughout the project, he was even able pick up an occasional “soda can.”

Mr. Wessel’s work through this timeframe ensured that tax dollars were being spent appropriately and that we were getting what we paid for. His work was above and beyond anything that we originally anticipated and for that we would like to publicly “Thank” Mr. Wessels and recognize him for his service and support throughout this adventure.

We hope that he is as proud of his work and the finished product as we are.

Brad Anderson
Superintendent
