True Traditions at W-G
The month of December sets itself apart from any other time of the year in many different ways, but what way do these thirty-one days truly distinguish themselves from any other month? Tradition.
Within this one-month, we participate in traditions such as the lighting of the menorah for Hanukkah, the decoration of the tree for Christmas, the celebration of the seven principles for Kwanzaa, and the proclamation of resolutions for New Years. Traditions are wonderful to experience, especially at this time of year, because they seem to reveal the human spirit through love and togetherness.
I was glancing through the Des Moines Register the other day and saw articles about the Salvation Army Kettle ringing, invitations for community holiday feasts and special events to unite old friends and family alike. These traditions are means to unite the general masses and to come together as one. These are the kinds of traditions that we aspire to create at Woodward-Granger Community Schools.
Through the last several years the district has been focused on providing students with some wonderful traditions of our own. We have made it a tradition to inspire students though community giving, singing, instrumental celebrations, art experiences and the ability to think, learn, achieve, and care. We have are continuing to hone our crafts to provide excellent educational experiences and services. Most importantly, we are building the tradition of preparing our students for postsecondary educational opportunities. The best part of these traditions is that we renew them every day of every season.
Thank you for your contributions toward building these honorable traditions and for being part of a growing community of learners. The traditions our students will build tomorrow are made possible by the work we dedicate ourselves to today. With our continued commitment to excellence, perhaps we’ll continue to see stories of success during future holiday seasons about students.
May the holiday seasons greet you with many heart-warming traditions, both old and new. Best wishes for a healthy and happy New Year. We thank you for making Woodward-Granger Community Schools part of your family tradition.
